Last week, I led a fun and competitive AI learning session for Product Managers in my team. We started with a simple idea: come up with a set of questions that every AI Product Manager should know.
Here’s how I structured it, and how you can run something similar with your own team.
The Four Sections
I broke the session into four parts, moving from the fundamentals to the practical:
1. Foundations
We covered how AI came about and the basic terms everyone should be comfortable with. This set a shared vocabulary before we went deeper.
2. How a model is trained
This section focused on the different steps in model training and the purpose each one serves. Knowing why each step exists makes it much easier to reason about what a model can and can’t do.
3. Evals, MCPs, and Agents
Here we unpacked what each of these terms means and, more importantly, where to use what. These concepts come up constantly in AI product conversations, and they’re easy to mix up.
4. AI in your PM day-to-day
We finished with the opportunities for using AI in everyday Product Management work, so the learning could turn into action right away.
The Format
I used Mentimeter to run the session. It’s an interactive tool that participants can join from their own devices, while the moderator sees responses come in real time.
In total, I had 16 questions, each with its own takeaway. Participants had 30 seconds to respond, except for a few questions where I allowed 45 seconds because they needed a bit more effort. The faster you submit, the more points you earn.
At the end of each section, I revealed the leaderboard to show how everyone was faring. It made the session far more engaging, because, let’s be honest, all Product Managers like to win!
Steal My Template
If you want to run this session for your own team, use my Mentimeter template: HERE
I’ve also attached a PDF version at the end of this post. Give it a try, and let me know how it goes. I’d love to hear what questions you’d add to the list.
