Too much information ~= NO INFORMATION
That’s essentially how PagerDuty(NYSE: PD) created its product-market fit.
Amidst slew of high profile IPOs planned for this year – Lyft, Uber, Pinterest, Slack – PagerDuty turned out to be the hidden gem with stock jumping more than 50% in its initial trading hours after IPO!
With engineering systems becoming more and more complex and godly expectations to make systems scalable using containerization, APIs, and microservices, I see a huge potential in a product such as PagerDuty.
Anyone who has worked in DevOps or cloud monitoring systems can easily tell the utility of PagerDuty. Most engineering systems still have “emails” as their primary alerting system. Slack finishes a close second.
However, these solutions can easily cause information overload, and it’s easy to miss important information amongst tons of emails or Slack messages. Most people supposed to be monitoring these alerts, already have these dedicated Slack channels “muted” or an “email-filter” enabled on all the alert emails.
I, personally, see PagerDuty be the next 10 bagger.
