Berkshire investing $360M in Paytm at $10B valuation! Great to see Paytm getting traction from the likes of Buffett.
I precisely remember the day when I first interviewed there. As soon as clock hits 5PM whole floor was oozing with sound of Laila – a song from little known Delhi based band called Faridkot. When I asked HR at the time “What’s this music thing all about?” She replied: “That’s how CEO Vijay Shekhar likes to play music!”
Next and final question I asked was: “When can I start working?”, and I ended up working there as a Software Engineer. I was so eager to start that I ended up joining on a Friday(June 14th, 2013)! Three days of wait felt too long at the time. It was at Paytm, I got my early lessons in AWS, Git, Nodejs, Agile. Now, when I look back, it is amazing to see how much I had learnt there in a short period of time.
Paytm has come a long way from its humble beginnings as One97 to become India’s largest digital payments company. It is incredible how work culture plays a huge role in productivity. Feels good to have bet on a firm which at the time was small but had big ambitions.
Big shout out to colleagues at the time: Peeyush, Prakhar, Sachin, Sameer, Ashwani, Vindhya, Richa
