There’s a very interesting new entrant in the space – the Indian Premier League (IPL).
IPL – $8.47 M
Lesser known in north america, but the number is a staggering $8.5 M every match played in the league year 2018. That is a growth of 850% in last ten years since the league started in 2008. Overall, IPL is valued at whopping $6.3 B in 2018.
A total of 769 M users – almost twice the US population – watched IPL in season 2018. Recent acquisition of Disney+ Hotstar, a major competitor of Netflix in India, by The Walt Disney Company shows how critical IPL viewership of 18M concurrent users is to the company.
With rising popularity of the game of cricket out of Indian subcontinent and commonwealth countries, $1 B has been recently invested to create a similar league in the US by 2021.
I wouldn’t be surprised if IPL’s per match price overtakes popular English Premier League in the years to follow.
