CAPTCHA – Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.
Captcha is a widely used industry standard to prevent bot attacks on any website, especially at sign-ins and registration. But let’s face it, for humans, it is annoying and causes friction for good users – that is most of us.
Seriously, who would want to type those alphanumerics in weird shapes and sizes – some capital, some small, some numbers?
I recently came across a captcha while singing up on GitHub, which wasn’t as annoying. At the very least, I spent 5-10 mins playing around with it!
It is basically a Captcha where users need to orient the animals on a flat surface by using left and right rotators. There is also a time limit in which you are supposed to get it right. Additionally, the difficulty increases if you fail to orient the first animal and goes up-to five animals if you repeatedly give incorrect answers.
That’s what I’d call user delight, even for something as annoying as a captcha. Great work by product team at GitHub.
